[edit] Dan section

The dan section was well populated with thirteen entries - five at 5 dan and five at 4 dan! Unsurprisingly it was very closely fought. At first it seemed Patrick Zhou would get a clear run, but a last minute tesuji by Do Young Kim left four players on four wins:

Do Young Kim, Ken Xie, Patrick Zhou, Long Yang Li

The rules say that SOS is used to determine a winner when scores are equal. This ended up with first place being shared by Do Young Kim and Long Yang Li.

It seems we are unable to hold a tournament without some controversy. This tournament, Corrin swapping with Peter to play Russell Buchanan in the last round probably took a SOS point off Ken Xie which means he got 4th place instead of 3rd equal with Patrick Zhou. If the WAGC points were assigned based on score rather than placement, this mistake would have been mainly symbolic. But they are based on placings. It remains to be seen whether the differences here have any practical effect.

(Note, WAGC points are determined by score only, so the points for first to fourth are summed and divided equally between the four players. Colin Grierson)
