[edit] New Zealand Go Championships
The NZ Go championships were held on September 10 and 11. Just like Wellington's last tournament entries on the day were slow. At the scheduled start time I thought we were going to have the smallest NZ championships for years, however people kept coming and a half an hour later we had 23 people, about normal. Mile Gu, who again came from Singapore and John Chen from Napier were very welcome out-of-town visitors.
Once again Kevin showed his strength, winning all his games. Longyang Li beat everyone he played - except Kevin and finished second. Ken Xie, John Fan, Juhua Zhou, Mile Gu and David Wu all won 4 games.
On Sunday the NZ Go society AGM was held. The major issues were finding a new committee and discussing a possible visit by Chinese professional Nie WeiPing next year. In the end Mike Taler was elected president with Kevin Liu as his assistant. Colin Grierson secretary with Peter Chen assisting. Ira Turvey, finally resigned as treasurer passing this role to Kevin. Many thanks Ira for the years you have done this and done it well. The full AGM minutes will be posted in a few days times.
