Long Yang Li won the 2007 Wellington Open and tied for first in the 2008 Wellington Open, to add to a not un-noticed tally of WAGC points earned at events such as the 2006 Wellington Open and the 2002 NZ Open.
At the Oceania qualifying tournament for the 2nd Toyota & Denso Cup in Brisbane, Australia, on 16th-18th January 2004, Li was in the top division and received the “Fighting Spirit” Award.
At the 1st Hawkes Bay Go Tournament, Li was first equal with Patrick Zhou
